One amazing Dream fulfilled was Dave “The General” Woellner (pictured below). He was a pilot during WWII living at Summit Hospice in Arizona with Alzheimers. Dave’s final Dream was to fly one last time. The students of the Scottsdale chapter rallied together and were able to get him into the same model plane, a Stearman, as when he trained during the war for one final ride!

When you become a part of DreamCatchers, you become a part of something bigger than yourself. Many more chapters have been established in locations all across the country, and a few internationally! This event is important because all proceeds will go towards helping make more Dreams come true, as well as increase intergenerational connections around the world.

A large part of the DreamCatchers mission centers on intergenerational connection like the one between Dave and the Scottsdale chapter because these Dream experiences provide the chance for young people to interact with typically-elderly hospice patients: an interaction rarely experienced in today’s society. We intend to destigmatize hospice, death and dying, by exposing young people early in life, and showing them how wonderful hospice can be for people nearing the end of their lives.

So we humbly invite you to our special event and hope you can make a big difference. Sponsorship and registration information can be found in the link above, so mark your calendars and we’ll see you in Scottsdale soon!

The “Casino

Since 1951, the Franciscan Renewal Center — affectionately known as the “Casa de Paz y Bien” or simply “the Casa” — has existed in Paradise Valley, Arizona, to offer spiritual growth, healing and transformation that moves lives into the service of others.

The Casa was founded by and is today an active religious community of the Order of Friars Minor — part of the worldwide Franciscan family, following in the footsteps of Sts. Francis and Clare of Assisi. The Casa is a wholly owned entity of the Franciscan Friars Province of Saint Barbara, based in Oakland, Calif., that works cooperatively with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.

Activities at the Casa include daily and Sunday Mass, spiritual retreats, wellness retreats, gathering space for non-profit groups, licensed behavioral health counseling, spiritual direction, as well as more than 50 volunteer ministries that give aid to the poor or vulnerable, empower individuals to improve their circumstances, and build community fellowship.
